Health guidelines have reclassified the recall of instant noodles due to an allergen.
In May, Sun Noodle, a food manufacturer in Hawaii, voluntarily recalled its S&S Cup Saimin—Noodles With Soup & Garnishes because of the undeclared presence of egg, a major allergen. Affected states include Hawaii, California, Nevada, and Utah.
The FDA now classifies the recall under Class I, which is the highest level indicating a serious health risk or even death from exposure to the product.
Recalled products include those from 2023 with lot codes 1623129 to 1623365 and from 2024 with lot codes 1624001 to 1624129.
The manufacturer advised consumers to return the product to the store for a full refund, apologizing for any inconvenience and ensuring safety and quality.
Eggs are among the nine food allergens identified by the FDA, along with milk, soya, fish, shellfish, treenuts, peanuts, wheat, and sesame.
Food allergies can cause discomfort and severe reactions, leading to serious illnesses. Symptoms can range from rashes and swelling to anaphylaxis, which requires immediate medical attention.
