President Joe Biden has received concerning news from recent polls in a state where Democrats have maintained a stronghold for over two decades.
Biden and former President Donald Trump are gearing up for a close rematch in November, with current polls showing them neck and neck.
Recent polling by the firm Co/efficient reveals that Biden and Trump are tied in Virginia, a state that hasn’t supported a Republican candidate since 2004.
With 41% of likely voters each supporting Biden and Trump, and 12% undecided, the race is exceptionally close. Another 7% of voters favor Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
The survey was conducted on June 11-12, with a margin of error of 3.36%. The results suggest a decline in Biden’s support compared to historical elections.
While the validity of the Co/efficient poll has been questioned by FiveThirtyEight, other polls also show a decline in Biden’s support, including in California.
Sarah Chamberlain, president of the Republican Main Street Partnership, believes Virginia could be a viable target for Republicans, considering the shifting dynamics.
The first debate between Biden and Trump is slated for June 27, with the election scheduled for November 5.
