Rob “The Rabbit” Pitts, known for his role in the Netflix series Tex Mex Motors, has sadly passed away at 45 after a battle with stomach cancer.
His videographer, Jeff, shared the news on Pitts’ YouTube channel, noting, “He just passed at 21:45 on 08/25/2024. He will be missed and we will never forget him!”
Pitts was not just a television personality; he was also the CEO of Pitts Truck Service, a family-owned business that has been in operation since 1968, specializing in truck and trailer repairs.
Fans saw him in Tex Mex Motors, where he and Scooter Carrera scoured the U.S.-Mexico border for vintage cars to restore and sell. The series featured iconic vehicles like the ’69 Opel, ’65 Volkswagen Bug, and ’63 Chevy Carryall. It premiered on Netflix in June 2023, and he was in the midst of filming the second season when he received his cancer diagnosis.
Pitts shared his health struggles in a YouTube video, recounting how he initially felt “off” during the SEMA show and began experiencing appetite loss and acid reflux-like symptoms. He was diagnosed in March and reflected on his life achievements, stating, “Don’t be sad for me… I accomplished my dream of buying my own store, finishing season 2 of Netflix, and marrying the love of my life.”
Since his passing, tributes have flooded in from fans and friends. One such tribute read, “Rob inspired me to buy and sell cars. He made a massive impact in my life, as well as many others. Rest in peace, Rabbit.” Another comment highlighted the grief felt in the automotive community, calling him an “absolute legend.”
The second season of Tex Mex Motors has yet to be released, but his legacy and influence on many will certainly endure.
