Ed Kelce, father of NFL star Travis Kelce, recently addressed his previous comments regarding Kanye West’s mental health, clarifying his stance to fans.
On August 8, Ed, 52, expressed his reaction to Kanye’s song that mentioned both Travis and Taylor Swift, describing it as “Mental illness on full display” in a post on his Facebook.
A week later, in response to media coverage by Sports Illustrated, Ed shared a new post to clarify his earlier comment about the rapper.
He stated, “My remark on Kanye was meant to highlight my concerns about his mental health, not to criticize him. His recent behaviors show signs of paranoia and an inflated sense of self-worth.” Notably, West has a history of mental health challenges, including a bipolar disorder diagnosis, and has had a long-standing feud with Swift.
Ed elaborated, “It’s too easy to attribute his actions to substance abuse. Many sober individuals have exhibited similar behavior. He is a talented artist, and I hope he seeks the help he needs.”
Recently, West released his latest album, Vultures 2, featuring the track “Lifestyle,” which includes a lyric referencing Travis Kelce.
Since Ed’s clarification, fans have rallied around him with messages of support. One commented, “All good Ed, we knew what you meant. We love you from down under in Australia!”
Another praised his influence on his sons, saying, “This is why your boys are so sweet; you’ve shown them how to be.” A third added, “Well said; some need help, and we must pray for them.”
