Drama isn’t new to the world of Below Deck, but the recent tension between Captains Lee Rosbach and Sandy Yawn has even veteran crew member Kate Chastain caught in the crossfire.
Chastain, known for her close relationship with Rosbach, stirred up speculation by attending Yawn’s wedding in May, raising eyebrows about her loyalties.
The tension reignited after a TikTok clip from October 9 captured Rosbach’s blunt reaction during his Nightcap tour in London. When asked to name his least favorite cast member, Rosbach didn’t hold back.
“My least favorite? Captain Sandy,” he stated, causing gasps from the audience. “I don’t like her. I can work with anyone as long as they do their job properly. If not, I’m not here for it.”
The candid clip quickly gained traction, with many fans agreeing with Rosbach’s sentiments. Comments ranged from calling Yawn an “instigator” to others feeling validated in their long-time criticism of her.
Despite Rosbach’s unfiltered opinions, Chastain’s support for Yawn during her wedding raised questions, especially since Rosbach has been vocal about Yawn’s actions on the yacht—like firing stewardess Camille Lamb while he was on medical leave.
After Yawn dismissed Lamb, Rosbach expressed on X (formerly Twitter), “I would have fired her too, but I would have notified the captain first,” highlighting his disagreement with Yawn’s approach.
While Chastain has kept her comments neutral publicly, she has acknowledged the difficult position of being friends with both captains. In interviews, she has praised Yawn’s skills, stating, “Sandy is a really talented captain,” while also suggesting that Rosbach’s criticisms might not be entirely fair.
Ultimately, Chastain expressed her desire to remain impartial, emphasizing that friendships shouldn’t be dictated by differing opinions.
