Even though Taylor Swift and Harry Styles ended their romance over a decade ago, their history continues to capture attention. Recently, NFL broadcaster Mike Tirico made a notable remark during the weather delay of the Kansas City Chiefs game on September 5, where Swift was there to support her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
As Tirico addressed the weather conditions, he said, “Game delayed some 20 minutes because of weather … not out of the woods for showers for the rest of the night.” Swifties quickly picked up on the potential nod to her song “Out of the Woods” from the album 1989.
Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts on Tirico’s remark. One fan exclaimed, “THEY JUST SAID OUT OF THE WOODS HELP!” while another playfully pondered whether it was a reference to Swift or just a common phrase. A third user added a Rihanna GIF with, “i see what you did there.”
Many believe that songs from 1989 like “Style” and “Out of the Woods” allude to Taylor’s brief relationship with Harry, which lasted from 2012 to 2013. Lyrics mentioning “two paper airplanes flying” refer to their matching airplane necklaces, and another line about a hospital visit is thought to reference Styles’ snowmobile accident.
Some might say Tirico’s comment isn’t the first Swift reference in the NFL since she started dating Kelce in summer 2023, but it certainly drew more attention given Swift’s high-profile attendance at the game. Dressed in a stylish denim outfit paired with red thigh-high boots, she quickly became the center of attention, even chatting it up with Travis’ dad, Ed Kelce.
