Paula Abdul has announced the cancellation of her upcoming tour due to “some injuries” that need surgery and an extended recovery time.
The 62-year-old pop star was set to perform in Alaska and North Dakota as part of her month-long Straight Up! To Canada Tour. However, she shared on Instagram on Thursday, September 5, that she can’t go on with the tour because of her injuries.
“It’s with a heavy heart that I need to share some news regarding my recent injuries,” the former American Idol judge wrote in her post.
In her update, Abdul explained that her doctors have recommended a minor surgical procedure followed by a recovery period of six to eight weeks. Despite previously seeking temporary relief, she acknowledged that a full tour would be too demanding at this time: “I’ve had injections that help for now, but touring is a different level of strain.”
Fans quickly rushed to the comments with messages of support. One wrote, “You just did a 47-day tour, so your body really needs to rest. Please take care of yourself!” Another chimed in, “So sorry to hear this… Just focus on healing. We need you back at your best!”
Abdul expressed her regret for disappointing fans who were looking forward to seeing her perform and reassured them that this is just a temporary setback. She promised to return “stronger and better” after her recovery.
For those affected by the tour cancellation, the “Opposites Attract” singer confirmed that refunds will be processed at the point of purchase. She wrapped up her message with a heartfelt thank you to her fans for their understanding, signing off with, “With all my love and gratitude, XoP.”
Throughout her career, Abdul has faced numerous health issues, including broken bones and chronic back pain from rigorous choreography, as well as recent challenges with osteoarthritis, which causes joint pain and stiffness.
