Desperate Housewives actress Teri Hatcher recently opened up about her conversations with the late Matthew Perry, who reached out to her about their shared experiences on the dating app Hinge—more than a year before his tragic passing.
Matthew Perry was discovered dead in October 2023 at the age of 54, with an investigation later revealing that his death was due to the effects of ketamine, a substance often used for depression treatment.
His Friends co-stars and many others from Hollywood shared heartfelt tributes, reminiscing about their treasured moments with him.
In a new interview with U.K.’s The Telegraph, Hatcher, who starred alongside Perry in CBS’s reboot of The Odd Couple, recounted a memorable exchange between them regarding Hinge.
Hatcher, now 59, mentioned that she and Perry kept in touch over the years, often texting a few times annually. One time, she shared that she had been kicked off Hinge because the app thought she was impersonating herself.
She recalled, “I tweeted about it, and Matthew texted me: ‘I got kicked off of Hinge too! What the heck are both of us doing on Hinge anyway?’ I laughed and thought, ‘Exactly!'”
In a January appearance on HSN’s Getting Grilled With Curtis Stone, Hatcher explained that she turned to Hinge hoping to meet new people and even filed a complaint for a refund after the mix-up. Hinge later apologized on social media, humorously stating, “We’re so sorry, Teri! Some thought you were too good to be true.”
In response, Hinge offered to rectify the situation, suggesting she email them with the subject line “Jerry Missed Out.” They introduced a “Selfie Verification” feature in 2022 to prevent this from happening again, allowing users to confirm their identity through a short video selfie.
Now, Hatcher mentions she has stepped away from dating apps altogether, declaring herself “happy” and fulfilled. “I have a really full life, beautiful friends, and I don’t need a man. I have a cat,” she said.
After Perry’s passing, Hatcher has found comfort in watching reruns of Friends. “He was a comedic genius and left us too soon. I always appreciated our supportive relationship behind the scenes,” she reflected.
