James Middleton, the brother of Princess Kate, recently opened up about her cancer journey following her announcement that she has completed chemotherapy. This update came during a special interview with NBC’s Kelly Cobiella, aired on the same day his memoir, Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life, was released.
James gained worldwide attention back in 2011 when he delivered a reading at Kate’s royal wedding, which was watched by over a billion people. Since then, he has become a familiar face at major royal events, including the recent coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla.
When Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis in March, James shared a touching message on social media, emphasizing family support: “Over the years, we have climbed many mountains together. As a family, we will climb this one with you too.”
During the Today interview, when asked about Kate’s wellbeing, James responded, “She’s doing OK. It’s not for me to share on her behalf how everything is going, but she’s getting all the right support and focus that she needs.” He added, “Like anything, it takes time to process.”
Kate’s health transition has been closely monitored since she stepped back from public life earlier this year to undergo abdominal surgery. She made her first public appearance at the Trooping the Colour ceremony in June, followed by attending Wimbledon in July.
On September 9, Kate announced that she had finished her chemotherapy treatment and emphasized her commitment to staying “cancer free.” She shared, “Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes. I am, however, looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can. Despite all that has gone before, I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life.”
Recently, Kate attended a ballet performance in London and has engaged in a couple of private meetings, as noted in the royal court circular.
