Chappell Roan Takes Aim at Scalpers Following Oasis Controversy

Chappell Roan recently took a stand against scalpers by canceling tickets they scooped up for her upcoming show, only days after Oasis attempted to tackle a similar issue for their much-anticipated reunion tour.

Rolling Stone has dubbed Roan “the future of pop,” while NME referred to her as “the most exciting new pop star in the world right now.” With her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, released in September 2023, she hit the road for her second headlining tour, The Midwest Princess Tour, which she later decided to extend into 2024.

In an Instagram story, Roan shared that scalpers had snatched up many tickets for her show at FirstBank Amphitheatre on October 1st. “We figured out why: scalpers and bots bought up all the tickets,” she explained.

To combat this, she and her team canceled the scalper tickets and set up a special Ticketmaster page for fans. “I want to make sure that tickets go to people who actually want to come,” Roan emphasized. Fans can find the new page at Chappellroan.request.ticketmaster.com and request tickets directly.

“You’ll only be charged if your request is fulfilled,” she explained, acknowledging the weirdness of the process but stressing her frustration over scalpers. “People deserve a ticket to my show.”

Roan’s initiative aligns with Oasis’s efforts to protect fans during their reunion tour, OASIS LIVE ’25, which is their first tour together in 15 years. They set up a face-value ticket exchange to prevent scalpers from driving up prices on secondary markets.

However, Oasis faced backlash when Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing system resulted in ticket prices skyrocketing, with some tickets reportedly doubling. Fans vented their frustration online, calling for fairer ticketing practices.

In response to the outrage, Oasis released a statement clarifying that they were unaware of the dynamic pricing strategy and that such decisions were made by their promoters. The U.K. Competition and Markets Authority is currently investigating Ticketmaster to determine if the ticket sales violated consumer protection laws.
