Disney Introduces Its First Model Homes in California’s Desert Community

Disney is making strides with its new living community concept, as three model homes have now been completed. This initiative, known as Storyliving by Disney, was first announced in 2022.

The debut community, Cotino, is set in Rancho Mirage, California, a part of the Greater Palm Springs area. There’s also a second Storyliving community planned just 30 miles southwest of Raleigh, North Carolina.

Recently, Disney opened the doors to the press to showcase the model homes, located on Blue Oasis Drive and Purple Iris Way, according to the Desert Sun.

Shea Homes, one of three builders involved, crafted the display homes that feature styles from the Oasis, Agrarian, and Aspiron collections.

These model homes are set to be open to the public starting in November. Storyliving’s vice president, Jay Critcher, expressed his excitement about the interest generated so far. “We’re really thrilled with the interest that we’ve got,” he told the Desert Sun.

Critcher noted that they are transitioning from pre-sales to active sales as they roll out more model homes. He emphasized Disney’s strong brand loyalty, especially in the Coachella Valley, where potential residents are eager to be part of the Disney community.

The Oasis display home is a single-story layout with around 2,275 square feet, featuring two bedrooms. The Agrarian style is two stories and roughly 2,820 square feet, while the single-story Aspiron home spans around 2,925 square feet, complete with a backyard pool.

While Disney hasn’t revealed specific sales figures yet, home prices are expected to start at about $1 million and can exceed $2 million. The primary interest appears to be coming from California residents, as well as buyers from other states.

Cotino will comprise 1,932 homes across 600 acres, boasting amenities like a 24-acre lagoon, sandy beaches, and various outdoor activities. A promenade for dining and shopping will be accessible to the public; however, non-residents will need a day pass for beach access.

Additionally, Disney plans to offer club memberships that provide access to various curated experiences, including wellness programs, live performances, and cooking classes.

Josh D’Amaro, the chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, stated that this Storyliving project aims to integrate Disney’s magic into daily life. “For nearly 100 years, Disney has shared stories that have touched the hearts and minds of people all around the world,” he said upon launching Storyliving. “We are excited to create communities that allow residents to truly live their lives to the fullest.”
