His family shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, stating, “With heavy hearts, we announce that our beloved husband/father/grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, has passed peacefully. We cherish our time with him and appreciate all the love he received over the years. When you spot a rainbow, remember he’s smiling down on us.”
A Rhodes Scholar who became a country legend, Kristofferson was behind numerous timeless hits, including “Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down,” “Help Me Make it Through the Night,” and the unforgettable “Me and Bobby McGee,” according to the Associated Press.
Upon hearing the news, fellow artists expressed their condolences. John Rich shared a touching tribute on X, reminiscing about their friendship: “Devastated to learn of Kris Kristofferson’s passing. It was an honor to know him, and he was one of the greatest lyricists ever. Miss you, brother.”
