Lance Bass recently updated fans on his health journey, revealing that he was misdiagnosed with Type 2 diabetes for years. Initially, during the COVID-19 lockdown, he believed he had developed Type 2 diabetes. However, in a July Instagram post, he disclosed that he actually has Type 1.5 diabetes, also known as latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA).
According to the Mayo Clinic, LADA resembles Type 1 diabetes, occurring when the body’s immune system attacks insulin-producing cells. Unlike Type 1, LADA tends to manifest in adults over 30, and those who are both lean and active may mistakenly be diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
Common symptoms of LADA include excessive thirst, fatigue, blurred vision, and tingling sensations in the extremities, according to the American Diabetes Association.
‘Finding the Bright Side’
Despite the tough diagnosis, Bass is optimistic. “Now that we know what it is, I can manage it better with insulin,” he stated. He shared his hope of being around for his twins, Violet Betty and Alexander James, born in October 2021 via surrogate, saying, “I want to see my grandkids someday.”
With young kids at home, Bass has made significant changes to his eating habits. “I’ve cut out desserts, but I’ll still treat myself occasionally, adjusting my insulin accordingly,” he explained. He’s also embraced more vegetables and reduced his bread intake.
Adapting to Change
Although Bass initially committed to a fitness routine, his busy life has made it challenging. He confessed, “I was doing great, but with the kids and preparing our place in Palm Springs, my cardio routine suffered.” Currently, chasing after his twins serves as his cardio workout.
Reflecting on his past, he mentioned how competing on *Dancing with the Stars* in 2008 boosted his confidence as a performer. “That experience really changed my life for the better,” he recalled fondly.
Looking ahead, Bass hinted at potential future projects with *NSYNC bandmates, despite their busy schedules. “We’re all discussing ideas and considering what we could do next,” he said. Each member is working on their respective ventures, but they’re all open to getting together for something special in the future.
Bass concluded with excitement about what lies ahead: “We’re all creative and brainstorming big ideas; we just need to see what sticks!”
