Mark Hamill has come under fire on social media after poking fun at the large bandage on Donald Trump’s right ear.
Over the weekend, there was an attempted assassination on Trump during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Following the incident, Trump was seen holding his right ear while security intervened. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot and killed by the Secret Service.
Trump later appeared at the Republican National Convention with a conspicuous bandage on his ear, which prompted Hamill’s mockery.
“1st APPEARANCE of ludicrously oversized ear bandage, apparently not needed prior to tonight [ear emoji and rolling on the floor laughing emoji],” the Star Wars actor shared on X, alongside a close-up photo of Trump wearing the bandage. The term “ludicrously oversized” was a nod to a joke from the TV show Succession.
Although the post garnered significant attention and thousands of comments, many criticized Hamill for his remarks.
Some supporters of Trump slammed Hamill, with one writing, “You wouldn’t know about oversized anything, as the mushroom and marbles in your pants are your only reference.”
Despite the backlash, there were others who supported Hamill’s comment, questioning the necessity of the bandage given the lack of visible injuries.
This is not the first time Hamill has publicly criticized Trump, having expressed his support for President Biden and his administration on multiple occasions, particularly on his social media platform.
On May 4, a significant day for Star Wars fans, Hamill shared a photo of himself with President Biden at the White House, humorously captioned, “May The Fourth Be The Day A Make-Believe Defender Of The Galaxy Met A Real-Life Defender Of Democracy.”
