NYT ‘Connections’ July 29: Clues and Answer for Game #414

After the massive success of the game Wordle, which captured the hearts of millions and got acquired by The New York Times in early 2022, a new puzzle game called Connections was introduced by the paper in 2023. This game has quickly gained a dedicated global following, with players excitedly discussing strategies and sharing their daily results on social media.

Connections can provide quite the challenge, and sometimes a little hint can make all the difference. If you’re looking for a clue, look no further. The answers for today’s puzzle are at the bottom of this article, so proceed with caution if you prefer to crack it on your own.

How to Play Connections

Every day, Connections gives players a grid of 16 words. The goal is to group these words into four sets of four based on shared themes or characteristics.

The four groups are color-coded by difficulty: yellow (the easiest), green, blue, and purple (the trickiest). Pick four words you think belong in a group, and if you’re right, those words will be highlighted and taken out of the grid. The color of the group will be shown, indicating the expected difficulty level.

Players have up to four incorrect guesses before the game concludes. There’s no time pressure, so take your time. You can also shuffle the words around to help identify connections you may have missed initially.

Wyna Liu, the editor of Connections, suggests that when players find five words that seem to fit in a category, they should focus on categorizing another group first. This strategy aids in clarifying which words go together through process of elimination.
