Olivia Rodrigo recently revealed an unusual encounter with law enforcement during her Guts World Tour, which turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.
The talented singer-songwriter has been busy performing over 90 shows globally since February to promote her album Guts, wrapping up her tour in October.
While chatting about her new Netflix film chronicling the tour, Rodrigo appeared on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She recounted a tense moment she faced upon re-entering the United States.
“I got in trouble with the law for the first time in my life,” Rodrigo confessed to Fallon. She explained that while traveling from Canada to Portland, she gave her passport at the border control, but then was unexpectedly approached by officers looking for her.
Initially thinking they wanted an autograph for a fan, Rodrigo soon found herself in an intimidating interrogation room at 3 a.m. “I’m freaking out. Like, I’m not gonna be let into America,” she recalled, feeling anxious and overwhelmed.
The officer began asking questions, leading Rodrigo to wonder if she might have been arrested before without her knowledge. It turns out, they mistook her for another Olivia—Olivia Rodriguez—who has had multiple run-ins with the law. “You didn’t look at the name on the thing?” she exclaimed, frustrated.
After the mix-up was sorted out, Rodrigo felt relieved, while Fallon humorously advised the other Olivia to stay out of trouble. “If you’re watching, be careful,” he quipped.
Rodrigo’s tour has led to many memorable moments, including an unforgettable wardrobe malfunction during a performance in London. While singing “Love Is Embarrassing,” her leather bra-top came undone, resulting in a hilarious yet awkward situation as she continued to dance while a backup dancer helped her. “This is f****** embarrassing,” she laughed, before sprinting offstage to fix her outfit.
