The January 6, 2021 events continue to be a hot topic as we approach the 2024 U.S. presidential election. This upcoming January will mark the fourth anniversary of the protests that escalated into a violent riot.
During a recent press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, claimed that those involved in the January 6 incident faced “very harsh” treatment from law enforcement.
On that day, Trump supporters rallied at the Capitol to contest the 2020 election results, which ultimately led to Joe Biden’s victory. In his remarks, Trump controversially stated that “nobody was killed on January 6.”
In reality, several lives were lost, including that of Trump supporter Ashli Babbitt. A Capitol police officer, Brian Sicknick, passed away the day after the riots due to two strokes he experienced during the conflict.
Brian Sicknick’s death drew tributes from notable figures, including Prince William, who was moved to reach out after viewing a documentary on the events of January 6.
Sicknick’s partner, Sandra Garza, recounted the emotional letter from Prince William during a CNN interview. She shared details of his heartfelt condolences, where he acknowledged Sicknick’s bravery and dedication while on duty.
In his letter, dated September 2021, Prince William expressed sorrow over Brian’s passing and praised his commitment to keeping people safe that day. He concluded his message with thoughts and prayers, empathizing with Garza’s loss.
This letter marks a rare instance of the British royal family publicly commenting on U.S. domestic issues. Interestingly, Garza noted that while she received sympathy from Prince William, she had no communication from Trump.
Describing William as a “beautiful, wonderful person,” Garza appreciated his gesture during such a difficult time. Kensington Palace chose not to comment on the letter or its sentiments during Garza’s interview.
