According to a new book, Queen Elizabeth II suspected that there was an “arrangement” in the marriage of Donald and Melania Trump. The queen reportedly struggled to comprehend why Melania chose to stay by Trump’s side.
The Trumps had multiple encounters with the queen during their presidency, including a formal state visit in 2019 where Melania joined Donald for a private tea at Windsor Castle, attended by other royal family members like Prince William and Princess Kate.
Known for her reservedness, the queen kept her thoughts on public figures largely to herself. However, excerpts from Craig Brown’s upcoming book, Q: A Voyage Around the Queen, published by the Daily Mail, reveal that she didn’t warm up to Donald Trump or understand his relationship with Melania.
Brown noted that while she had engaged with various contentious leaders over her reign, she reportedly found Trump “very rude,” particularly dismissing his habit of glancing over her shoulder during their conversations.
Adding to that, the queen believed there had to be some sort of agreement between the Trumps, questioning why Melania would remain married to him otherwise.
The dynamics of the Trump marriage have been heavily scrutinized since Donald entered the political scene. They tied the knot in 2005 and share a son, Barron, born in 2006.
Melania’s notable absence from the campaign trail during Donald’s bid for reelection in 2024 stirred conversations. However, she made a rare appearance at the Republican National Convention in July, shortly after Donald narrowly escaped an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally.
In a heartfelt statement following the incident, Melania expressed gratitude for the Secret Service’s protection, reflecting on the narrow escape of her husband and their family. She emphasized the humanity behind politics and the values of love, compassion, and empathy in challenging times.
