Author Stephen King has taken another playful jab at billionaire Elon Musk for his decision to rename the popular social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
In October 2022, the Tesla CEO acquired Twitter in a monumental $44 billion deal, bringing about a slew of changes, including rebranding the platform as X.
King and Musk have engaged in light-hearted banter over X, with King playfully resisting the name change.
King’s most recent dig at Musk involved sharing a video Musk posted on X, featuring a computer-generated image of a massive X structure towering over skyscrapers in an unnamed city.
Musk shared the video without comment, but King wasn’t about to let it slide.
“Twitter. Twitter, Twitter. Twitter, Twitter, Twitter,” King captioned his repost of Musk’s video in a viral post that has garnered nearly 3 million views at the time of writing.
This isn’t the first time King has voiced his critiques of Musk’s handling of X.
Merely a month into Musk’s ownership of X, King remarked, “I think Elon Musk is a visionary. Almost single-handedly, he’s changed the way Americans think about automobiles. I have a Tesla and love it. That said, he’s been a terrible fit for Twitter. He appears to be making it up as he goes along.”
In response, Musk humorously stated, “Suggestions are welcome Mr. [King],” with a crown emoji in lieu of King’s last name.
Following a suggestion in November 2022 for Musk to invite King for a face-to-face meeting at Twitter headquarters in San Francisco, Musk promptly said, “He is invited!”
The ongoing tiffs between the two continued, with King adamantly refusing to adopt the new name for Twitter.
In a post from November, King demanded, “This X s***’s got to go,” alongside the hashtag “#ChangeItBack.”
Despite Musk’s response of “𝕏𝕏” and a blowing kiss emoji, King reiterated his disdain for the X rebrand in a post from February, criticizing Musk for placing his personal brand on everything.
Known for his thrilling novels like It and Pet Sematary, King is no stranger to the limelight.
