Stephen King recently stirred the pot on social media with a scathing critique of X (formerly Twitter) and its technical glitches, especially during the much-anticipated interview between Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
Amidst a host of technical issues during the live stream, which started 40 minutes late, King took to the platform to express his frustrations. He tweeted, “Tech problems with Musk/Trump don’t surprise me. Twitter is more f***** up than [Peter O’Toole] on his birthday,” a jab that quickly garnered over 300,000 views.
For those unaware, King has a history of referencing the late actor Peter O’Toole when critiquing Trump, including a similar remark in January 2021 where he described the then-President as “barking mad.”
This recent comment did spark a debate online, with some users suggesting that if King dislikes X so much, he should simply quit the platform. One user advised, “Then leave…you keep complaining about X but you’re still on. Just leave.”
As for the Trump-Musk interview, it was entitled the “interview of the century,” but tech troubles overshadowed the actual content. Musk claimed that a Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack caused the issues, a point that remains unverified.
In the past, Musk and King have had their fair share of public disagreements over X. King has rejected the name change from Twitter to X, frequently reminding his followers of its original name. In July, he reposted a video Musk shared about an X-shaped skyscraper, captioning it, “Twitter, Twitter. Twitter, Twitter, Twitter,” a post that went viral with 11.4 million views.
King has also expressed mixed feelings about Musk’s ownership. While he acknowledges Musk’s achievements in the automotive industry, he believes the CEO has struggled to effectively manage X. “He appears to be making it up as he goes along,” King remarked.
With a history of critiquing the GOP and Donald Trump dating back to 1970 when he joined the Democratic Party, it’s clear that King isn’t shy about sharing his opinions. His recent tweet about Trump’s allegations against Kamala Harris was no exception, as he questioned the former President’s grasp on reality.
In a political landscape rife with debate, King’s opinions continue to resonate across social media, provoking reactions from both supporters and critics alike.
