“We scoured through old files to find the original signatures because my dad’s father passed away when he was young,” explained Shute.

After discovering a card that her father had written to his mother, who also passed away early in his life, they decided to use it as the design for a tattoo.

Located on his upper arm, the tattoo represents new beginnings, and Shute mentioned her dad plans to add more tattoos to mark significant life events.

“He cherished his parents and wanted a personal piece that embodies them,” she said.

“They lived before texting, so tracing their handwriting felt incredibly meaningful and was exactly what he wanted to carry forward,” she added.

Shute’s videos, which together have nearly 1 million views, inspired others on TikTok to share their personal stories of grief.

One user shared a similar experience, stating they lost their dad at 10 and have his signature tattooed on their wrist.

Another commented about their dad getting his first tattoo at 60 and continuing to get more along the way, including ear piercings.

In a touching moment, the dad unveiled his tattoo to the family, and their reactions were priceless.

Shute reflected on her father’s tattoo, realizing the emotional weight it carries for those who have lost parents. “As a young person, it’s made me understand just how hard it must be for them,” she expressed.

She plans to create more content based on her dad’s life experiences, acknowledging areas she’s still learning about.

“Getting your first tattoo at that age is pretty awesome, and many people seemed to agree,” she said. “Life’s short, and I’m really proud of my dad for embracing something new,” the 24-year-old concluded.
