In a light-hearted post on Reddit’s Family & Friends channel, 36-year-old Matt Ward shared a charming twist on the classic “honey do” list typically created by his wife, Rachael.
“Usually, Rachael would jot down tasks like ‘fix the shed door’ or ‘install a shelf in the girls’ room’ on a sticky note on the fridge,” he recounted.
With some household projects in need of attention, Rachael decided to switch things up with a dry erase board for better organization.
Things got even cuter when Matt’s daughters, Katie, 10, and Emily, 7, noticed the board and added their own playful tasks.
Their list included: be a happy daddy, do daddy things, and get cupcakes—”for no reason” was a special note they included!
Matt explained that his daughters thought he deserved a fun list after all the hard work he does.
“They often make me drawings and cards for when I come home from work,” he said. “Getting big hugs from my girls is the best part of my day.”
His post has received more than 7,000 upvotes and sparked over 100 comments, with one user sharing a heartfelt story about losing their husband earlier this year. They urged Matt to “buy the damn cupcakes,” sharing how much they missed him and their kids.
Another Redditor humorously commented, “Should. Not. Have. Read. This. Post! You … broke my heart!”.
Ward expressed his gratitude for the positive responses, saying, “If it made someone’s day, it was worth sharing.” In a follow-up, he confirmed he indeed got the cupcakes as requested.
Talking about fatherhood, Matt described being a dad to two girls as “the greatest.” He said, “We go on all kinds of adventures and have lots of fun,” adding with a laugh that he now feels the pressure to be “very very funny,” as per his daughters’ expectations.
