An Indiana mom is over the moon after scoring a vintage bassinet for her daughter, Miranda Morris, who recently got married. Miranda, a curve model and content creator from Los Angeles, shared her mom Sherri’s joyful reaction on TikTok when the wicker bassinet was loaded into her truck.
But there’s a little hiccup in the plan: Miranda’s not expecting and prefers to wait about a year before starting a family. “I am not pregnant and don’t plan to start our family for another year or so,” she clarified.
While the timing for becoming a mom varies, it’s worth noting that the average age for first-time moms in the U.S. has risen recently. According to Pew Research Center, by 2021, women were averaging 27.3 years at the birth of their first child, up from 25.6 in 2011.
Despite her plans, Miranda was drawn to the bassinet they discovered at Vendors Village in Clarksville. “My husband and I are house hunting, so any purchases feel justified as ‘things we might need later,'” she said.
She just couldn’t resist the $90 deal. “As soon as my mom saw me eyeing it, she ran over,” Miranda recounted. “After asking me if I loved it about 20 times, she zoomed it to the register.”
Both Miranda and Sherri have a passion for thrifting, making the moment even more memorable. “It was quite a laugh, reminiscing about past thrift trips for prom dresses and Halloween costumes, and now choosing a bassinet,” she reflected. “It’s amazing how times have changed.”
Miranda felt compelled to share the video, believing many could relate to the joy of a possible future grandmother. The reception has been heartwarming, with many sharing similar stories, especially those who have lost their mothers before having kids and longed for keepsakes from them.
“I knew how lucky I was to have a mom like hers, and it’s touching to see that echoed by others,” she shared.
For now, the bassinet will be stored away, but Miranda and her mom plan to continue thrifting—with a new focus. “We may be starting a different kind of thrifting together, aiming for a fully vintage nursery one day,” Miranda said. “This bassinet is sure to be the centerpiece!”
