Pregnant Woman Drinks Contaminated Milk: A Chilling Tale of Listeria Risk

A pregnant woman, Angel Ocean, 30, has opened up about a frightening incident where she unknowingly consumed oat milk that was recalled due to potential listeria contamination.

Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Ocean took to TikTok on her account @angelocean_ to share her alarming experience in hopes of getting advice from her followers after realizing the gravity of the situation.

In her videos, she showcased the oat milk in a green screen feature, explaining that consuming it could be highly risky for her unborn baby.

Listeria, a harmful bacteria often found in contaminated foods such as unpasteurized dairy, deli meats, and some veggies, can lead to listeriosis and poses serious risks for pregnant women.

Ocean’s panic escalated as she checked the product details and discovered they matched those of the recalled items linked to listeria concerns.

“I called my midwife at 9 p.m.,” she recounted. “I’ve had intermittent diarrhea and other GI issues for weeks, and last night, I felt nauseous again.” Unable to secure immediate help from her midwife and with her doctor far away, she felt lost.

In a follow-up post, she described an unsettling visit to a walk-in clinic where, despite the doctor’s unfamiliarity with listeria cases, she was advised against her request for a blood test and given a requisition for stool samples instead.

Reassured by the doctor that a lack of fever and fetal movements were good signs, Ocean remained unconvinced and sought further medical opinions. Supported by her husband Tom, she contacted a different doctor who took her concerns seriously, provided a blood test requisition, and prescribed antibiotics as a precautionary measure.

In her final TikTok update, Ocean expressed gratitude to her followers for their support and shared the good news that her blood work came back negative for listeria. “We’re doing well; baby’s active and my digestion is back to normal.” She added that her doctor advised her to continue taking the prescribed antibiotics, including amoxicillin, to ensure safety.
