Scottie Scheffler Caps Off Incredible Season with FedEx Cup Win

The 2024 PGA Tour season has officially wrapped up, and, unsurprisingly, the top-ranked player in the world, Scottie Scheffler, clinched the title at the final event. On Sunday, he proudly emerged as the 2024 FedEx champion.

This victory marks Scheffler’s impressive seventh Tour Championship of the season, a feat not accomplished since Tiger Woods in 2007. He is the first player to win The Players, The Masters, and the Tour Championship all within one season. Additionally, Scheffler celebrated his first Olympic gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Scheffler joins the elite ranks alongside Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh as the only players to achieve seven or more tournament wins in a single season dating back to 1983. His scoring average of 68 this year is now the lowest in Tour history.

It’s truly been a dream season for the 28-year-old, and it seems there’s still more to come.

As the tournament unfolded, it wasn’t entirely smooth sailing for Scheffler on Sunday. He entered the final round with a five-shot lead, but on the sixth hole, he faced a moment of drama, nearly sending his drive out of bounds and ending up with a bogey.

He stumbled again on the par-4 eighth, where a wayward bunker shot led to another bogey, allowing Collin Morikawa to birdie the same hole and cut the lead to two. Tension filled the air as spectators watched closely.

Feeling the pressure, Scheffler admitted, “I was a bit frustrated. That up-and-down was pretty straightforward. It definitely wasn’t ideal timing, but I bounced back nicely afterwards.”

Refusing to let these setbacks deter him, Scheffler finished strong, nailing three birdies in a row. He rounded off the day with a 4-under 67, finishing the tournament at 30 under and securing his first FedEx Cup trophy. With this win, his total earnings for the season soared to an astounding $62,228,357.

Reflecting on his journey, Scheffler shared, “I’m just proud of the effort we put in. This year has been a whirlwind, filled with plenty of ups and downs outside of golf.”
