Tom Kim Criticizes U.S. Team for Unsportsmanlike Conduct at Presidents Cup

Tom Kim, the spirited young golfer at the Presidents Cup, has expressed his concerns regarding what he feels is unsportsmanlike conduct from some members of the U.S. team. Known for his enthusiastic gameplay and engaging the crowd, Kim spoke out about his frustrations, citing instances of disrespectful behavior from American players.

“It got a little feisty out there,” Kim remarked. “I could hear some players cursing at us. That wasn’t really good sportsmanship, in my opinion. But it’s all part of the fun, and I get that. The U.S. team definitely fired us up to give it our all.” Although his record stands at 1-2, Kim’s spirited energy on the course has been a highlight thus far.

Teaming up with Si Woo Kim, he reflected on the boundaries of sportsmanship, saying, “You see me fist pumping and jumping on the green. That’s all part of it. I just don’t think there’s a need to curse at someone.”

Kim reassured fans that he’s not hurt by the comments, stating, “I understand it. My feelings aren’t hurt at all. I hope there are no negative comments— that’s not my intention.”

In contrast, U.S. team members Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele have strongly rejected Kim’s claims. Schauffele insisted they treated their opponents with respect, saying, “We were trying to quiet the crowds when they were taking their shots. It was a fair back-and-forth.”

He added, “I have no idea what he may have heard, but I don’t believe any of our guys would act that way.”

As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on the interactions between Kim and the American team, especially with upcoming matches that could put their relationships to the test.

One such match features Sam Burns, who is known for his crowd interactions and vocal presence. “If they come at me, why shouldn’t I respond? It seems fair,” he explained. “You have to show that you’re not intimidated by what they say, even if they think they’re funny.”
