As I navigated my final semester at NC State University with a focus on engineering and entrepreneurship, along with minors in psychology and music performance, the unexpected arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic shook my world.
Within a short time of the lockdown, I lost my job, had to drop out of college, and found myself without a stable place to live. Facing unemployment and uncertainty, I returned to my parents’ home feeling adrift and overwhelmed.
Struggling to cope with the sudden upheaval, I spiraled into a deep depression. Over the next months, I gained a significant amount of weight, developed eating disorders, turned to substances, and sought escape in video games and pornography.
At my lowest point, I contemplated a tragic decision—to end my own life. But after many sleepless nights filled with turmoil, I had a revelation—I didn’t want to die; I wanted to live!
Realizing that self-care was essential for my well-being and those around me, I embarked on a journey of transformation. To chart my path forward, I needed to assess my starting point and envision my desired destination.
A physical examination revealed alarming aspects of my health—a 25-year-old weighed down by 285 pounds, with a body fat percentage of 32% and a diagnosis of morbid obesity. Medical issues such as low testosterone levels and signs of hypothyroidism underscored the pressing need for a health overhaul.
My journey towards better health began with understanding how my body responded to food. Identifying sensitivities to dairy and gluten prompted their elimination, leading to reduced bloating and increased energy levels.
To shed excess weight, I delved into research on the keto diet, drawing inspiration from Dr. Eric Berg’s informative videos. By cutting out alcohol, sugar, and limiting carb intake, I embraced a new dietary approach.
Joining Life Time Fitness marked a pivotal moment as I found a supportive community that prioritized holistic well-being. Engaging coaches across various domains—from fitness to mental wellness—provided the guidance and accountability necessary for progress.
Through consistent effort and experimentation, I incorporated cardio exercises like running, Stairmaster sessions, and swimming, leveraging cold plunges for their mental and physical benefits.
Embracing intermittent fasting and prolonged water fasts alongside my cardio regimen propelled me towards significant weight loss. In just six months, I achieved my target weight, shedding 100 pounds and reclaiming my happiness.
Emboldened by my physical transformation, I ventured into new challenges—from half marathons to bodybuilding contests—a testament to my newfound strength and vigor. Elevating my testosterone levels naturally and free from health concerns, I now excel in both my professional and personal pursuits.
Reflecting on my journey, I find a profound sense of purpose in inspiring others through my story. By choosing joy and positivity, I strive to be a beacon of hope for those silently battling their own struggles.
My transformation not only revitalized my own life but also ignited a passion to uplift and empower others. Through my non-profit venture and unwavering commitment to spreading positivity, I endeavor to make a meaningful impact on the world around me.
