A charming video of a dog putting on an “intimidating bark” while holding onto his mom’s hand has taken TikTok by storm.
Shared by @cavapooted, the account belonging to Teddy the dog, the clip has gathered over 174,000 views since its upload on July 11. Teddy is identified as a Cavapoo, a delightful blend of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle.
The video features a caption that humorously notes: “When there’s a strange man fixing the door and you need to hold mum’s hand.”
Captured in the UK, the footage shows Teddy perched at the top of the stairs, resting his paw on a woman beside him, as the background noise of home repairs fills the air. After a few curious glances toward the camera, he belts out a bark, before adorably placing both paws on his mom.
“We all need to hold our mum’s hand sometimes,” adds a light-hearted caption accompanying the post.
As fascinating as the clip is, it raises an interesting point about canine behavior. A study published in Scientific Reports examined fear in dogs, categorizing it into social and nonsocial fears, depending on the sources of anxiety.
Social fear can arise from encounters with unfamiliar dogs or people, whereas nonsocial fear often relates to objects, loud noises, or new experiences. The study highlighted that fear responses can vary based on what triggers them, with fearful dogs often showing avoidance or vocalization.
Interestingly, a dog’s fearfulness is influenced by both genetics and their environment, affecting socialization, training, and even previous experiences with dogs.
‘Adorable’
Viewers on TikTok couldn’t help but express their affection for Teddy’s anxious demeanor in the viral video.
“Aaaww so adorable,” commented Kacee XOXO, while @mrsinchcredible remarked, “Awww wee button, keeps looking at you too.”
One user, mcjanners, found humor in his gesture, saying, “It’s the hold my two paws after the big boy bark that got me.” Another, maartje, remarked, “That was one intimidating bark.” Sara noted, “He’s actually saying ‘hold me back mum…I’m dangerous’ hence the furrrrrocious bark halfway through.”
