According to the listing, “The Pale Farm is one of the most exquisite Tudor-style homes in the region.” Partially dating back to the 16th century, this historical gem is filled with charming period attributes like a grand square chimney over the inglenook fireplace, oak doors, and visible timbers.

The spacious layout features an open-plan kitchen and living area with a vaulted ceiling, four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a cellar, three reception rooms, a sunroom, and approximately half an acre of private gardens. Additionally, there is a two-bedroom annex complete with a living room and bathroom.

The original structure was built around 1500, with a younger addition likely constructed about 50 years later.

In the 16th century, the property was owned by Thomas Carter, a miller and brewer related to the Carter family, who later migrated to the U.S. Plans for President Carter to visit the house never materialized.

Born James Earl Carter, Jr. in 1924 in Plains, Georgia, Carter served as the 39th President from 1977 to 1981. He will celebrate his centennial birthday on October 1, with various tributes planned throughout Georgia, including a concert in his hometown attended by family members.

Former President Carter entered hospice care in February 2023, and he humorously remarked that he’s “just trying to make it to vote for Kamala Harris” in the upcoming election.

As per the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum, the Carter lineage began in the U.S. when Thomas Carter Sr. arrived from England in 1637. Five generations later, Kindred Carter settled in Georgia, leading to the birth of Jimmy Carter more than a century later.

The listing notes that Jimmy Carter’s descendants once owned the farm and made significant contributions to the local community.

The house encompasses around 4,000 square feet, complemented by a sizable timber-framed barn of approximately 1,300 square feet. The garden features lush lawns and scenic walkways.

“On the market with no upper chain, highlights include an impressive drawing room, an elegant dining area, and a stunning vaulted kitchen/family room featuring underfloor heating and a double gas-fired Aga,” the agent noted.

Conveniently located in the village center, The Pale Farm is close to the local cricket field, four pubs, cafes, and shops. It also offers easy access to London via the M25 and nearby Chorleywood railway station.
