Internet Falls in Love With Sleeping Dog’s Happy Tail Wagging Dream: ‘So Heartwarming’

A heartwarming video of a dog seemingly living her best dream has the internet in tears of joy.

The dog owner, who goes by the name Alf (@portal1977), shared a clip of his little sleeping pup Poppy wagging her tail in excitement, capturing 29,800 likes and 171,500 views on TikTok.

Poppy, a 5-year-old Morkie, is a mix of Maltese and Yorkshire Terrier known for being small, lovable dogs weighing between 4 and 8 pounds and standing 6 to 8 inches tall, according to PetMD.

As Poppy slept soundly on a couch pillow, she wagged her tail vigorously, showing her joy in her dream. Beside her, her younger brother of the same breed enjoyed a nap as well.

Her tail movements eased as Poppy slowly opened her eyes.

“Poppy is very affectionate and adores cuddles,” the owner shared.

Wagging tails during sleep often indicate dreaming. According to Fluffy Tamer, dogs display signs of pleasant dreams through subtle body movements and sounds, such as paw twitching, ear flicking, and rapid eye movement. Tail wagging in this state suggests the dog is experiencing a vivid dream.

During REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep, dogs exhibit behaviors like leg twitching and vocalization, implying they’re reliving exciting moments. Puppies and elderly dogs tend to dream more frequently than adult dogs, as noted by the American Kennel Club.

REM sleep isn’t exclusive to dogs; it typically constitutes about a quarter of our sleep time, where most dreaming occurs. The term originates from the eye movements observed behind closed eyelids during dreams, as explained by the Cleveland Clinic.

Commenters on TikTok were touched by the endearing slumber of the dogs.

“This is so heartwarming,” one user expressively commented. “Look at that dreamy smile,” another person noted.

“Curled up on her pillow, having the sweetest dreams,” a viewer remarked.

“Maybe dreaming of cheese,” one dog lover amusingly mused.

Sharing a similar experience, one user mentioned their shorkie also does this.

Reflecting on dog dreams, a user speculated, “Perhaps her ‘good dream’ is a memory of your return or playtime together.”
