Jon Stewart hilariously called out Bud Light for changing its tune on partnering with Dylan Mulvaney.
On a recent episode of “The Last Episode of the Week” from The Daily Show, Stewart went after corporations for exploiting LGBTQ Pride Month, taking shots at Target, Oreos, Skittles, and Burger King for what he dubbed as superficial campaigns.
Stewart also criticized Bud Light’s response to a conservative boycott from last year.
Bud Light faced backlash from conservative consumers for gifting a custom crate to transgender blogger Dylan Mulvaney in April 2023. Following Mulvaney’s viral TikTok rise detailing her transgender journey in “The 100 Days of Girlhood” series, celebrities like Kid Rock and Travis Tritt called for a boycott of Bud Light. Stewart likened it to “a Bud Light massacre” and playfully depicted Kid Rock shooting at Bud Light cans.
After a drop in stock prices due to the boycott, Anheuser-Busch InBev, Bud Light’s parent company, issued a public apology that upset LGBTQ activists. This was followed by a campaign emphasizing American patriotism and Bud Light’s heritage.
Stewart couldn’t resist poking fun at the campaign, joking about a Clydesdale named Jean-Luc Bolsonaro aiming to restore America’s spirit, owned by a Belgian/Brazilian beverage company.
Despite efforts, Bud Light’s sales have yet to fully rebound post-boycott, with May sales data still lagging behind.
Stewart questioned why we get so riled up about the values of massive corporations when their primary concern is shareholder value.
