Exciting New A’s Stadium Designs Showcase Las Vegas Casino View

The Oakland Athletics are taking their time with their big move to Las Vegas. While fans await the opening of their new $1.5 billion stadium in 2028, the team will temporarily play at a former Triple-A field in Sacramento.

Fresh renderings released recently shed some light on the future ballpark, which is set to hold 30,000 fans and will be located on the 35-acre site of the recently demolished Tropicana resort. The Las Vegas Review-Journal notes that plans for new hotel towers by Bally’s will also accompany the stadium’s development.

Though these new visuals are the most detailed so far, key details remain elusive. A’s owner John Fisher mentioned in a chat with the Nevada Independent that they are busy crafting designs for the stadium’s interior, including food vendors and club sections.

Financing for the project is still up in the air, which adds to the uncertainty surrounding the A’s future payroll as well. A source from the team indicated that the A’s are expected to confirm the funding details by December, as construction cannot commence without secured financing. According to the Review-Journal, no timelines for breaking ground on the ballpark or the accompanying hotel were detailed in the recent plans.

One notable absence in the renderings is any mention of parking. Plans currently call for only 2,500 parking spaces on-site, suggesting a heavy reliance on nearby garages, as around 9,328 fans are expected to walk to the stadium from surrounding areas.

The search for a new ballpark has been a long journey for the A’s since the 1990s, with various potential locations falling through due to financing issues and legal hurdles. After contemplating different options, Fisher and his team officially decided on Las Vegas in 2023, marking a historic change in Major League Baseball.
