White Sox Owner’s Heartfelt Letter to Fans During Unforgettable Season

In a recent letter to fans, Jerry Reinsdorf, owner of the Chicago White Sox, addressed the disappointing record-setting season that saw the team suffer 121 losses. The letter was issued just two days after this unfortunate milestone.

In other news: Tom Brady shared that he nearly signed with a different NFC team before ultimately choosing the Buccaneers.

Reinsdorf was candid about the team’s performance, stating, “By all measure, our on-field performance this season was a failure. As the leader of this organization, that is my ultimate responsibility. There are no excuses.” Understandably, fans expressed their anger over the team’s abysmal showing, and Reinsdorf acknowledged their frustration.

“I want to thank you for continuing to support the team throughout what was an embarrassing season,” he added. “You all deserved better. This season’s performance was completely unacceptable.”

Since making the playoffs in 2021, fans have been anxious for the front office to make some strategic offseason moves to improve the roster. However, General Manager Chris Getz hinted that significant free agency signings are unlikely this year. He indicated that they’re still evaluating what level of free agents they’ll pursue, and it seems they won’t be targeting any high-profile names.

Instead, the front office appears focused on trading for prospects, a strategy reminiscent of last year’s approach, which did not yield desired results. This season, the White Sox traded former top prospect Michael Kopech to the Los Angeles Dodgers, receiving Miguel Vargas and two prospects in return. Now, Kopech is competing in the NLDS, while the White Sox are left grappling with their historic losses—a tough pill for the franchise to swallow.

Despite the tumultuous season, Reinsdorf promised fans that words will be backed by action: “Whether said out loud or written in a statement, words are easy. I understand we need to show our progress through action, and I commit to you that everyone associated with the White Sox is focused on returning this organization to the level of success we all expect and desire.”

We’ll have to see if Reinsdorf’s commitment translates into real change as fans await next season’s performance.
