After a solid 12-year career in the NBA, veteran shooting guard Evan Fournier is heading overseas for the 2024-25 season, having signed a two-year deal worth over $4 million with Greece’s EuroLeague team, Olympiacos. This news was first reported by NBA insider Shams Charania on Twitter/X.
The talk of Fournier exploring EuroLeague options had been circulating since July, when NBA analyst Marc Stein suggested that there would be interest in him both in Europe and the NBA.
Fournier, now 31, is returning to his roots in professional basketball, having started his career overseas before making a name for himself in the NBA. Over the years, he’s played for several teams, including the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, and Detroit Pistons, averaging 13.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game.
Originally drafted by the Nuggets as the No. 20 pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, Fournier quickly made his mark, notably during his seven seasons with the Magic, where he averaged a career-best 16.2 points. His most recent stint with the Pistons saw him averaging just 7.2 points per game, contributing to his decision to seek a more prominent role in Europe.
Fournier recently showcased his skills at the 2024 Paris Olympics, helping France claim a silver medal while averaging close to 10 points throughout the tournament. With the move to Olympiacos, Fournier is looking to reclaim a more significant role in his basketball career and make a fresh impact in the EuroLeague.
