Kawhi Leonard Says He’s Thriving with New Teammate James Harden on the Clippers

Kawhi Leonard is kicking off his sixth season with the Los Angeles Clippers, and it’s been quite the ride. Since joining the team in 2019, expectations soared, but the Clippers have yet to reach the NBA Finals, despite Leonard teaming up with fellow star Paul George.

While Leonard and George made a formidable duo, they only managed a run to the Western Conference Finals during their time together, leading many to view their partnership as a letdown. This past offseason, George made a shift to the Philadelphia 76ers, leaving Leonard to navigate the upcoming season on his own.

Fortunately, Leonard now has 10-time All-Star James Harden as his new teammate. Early signs of their partnership look promising. Leonard shared with The Athletic’s Law Murray that their relationship has been off to a great start, emphasizing both players’ commitment to winning.

“The relationship has been great,” Leonard said. “Harden came in last year with the mindset of wanting to win and knowing he needed to sacrifice. That mentality hasn’t changed this season. It’s all about having teammates who are dedicated to winning and being honest with each other on the court.”

Harden was traded to the Clippers from the 76ers last October, marking his return to Southern California, where he’s eager to contribute to a powerful roster. However, last season was marred by injuries, notably Leonard’s knee issues, which limited their playoff success against the Dallas Mavericks.

This season, the Clippers will need Leonard and Harden to step up, especially with a less star-studded lineup. As they aim for a successful campaign, the duo’s chemistry and teamwork will be crucial.

In other news: Kawhi Leonard’s status for Opening Night is uncertain due to lingering knee issues.
