The New York Knicks have been actively making moves this summer to build on their success from last season, where they achieved 50 wins and reached the Eastern Conference playoffs semifinals.
The standout move was acquiring former Brooklyn Nets small forward Mikal Bridges, Keita Bates-Diop, and a 2026 draft pick in exchange for a hefty package of future draft picks, players, and a pick swap.
Additionally, the Knicks secured contract extensions with All-NBA point guard Jalen Brunson for a team-friendly deal and forward OG Anunoby on a lucrative agreement.
Now, it seems that Bridges is considering following Brunson’s lead in signing an extension to help strengthen the team’s roster depth.
According to a recent Substack article by Marc Stein, Bridges is open to extending his time with the Knicks, providing a potential boost to the team’s future. He is currently halfway through a reasonable contract he signed with the Phoenix Suns.
Bridges could be eligible for a two-year extension starting on Oct. 1, followed by longer extensions in the future as he progresses through his career.
At 27 years old, Bridges, a former Villanova champion, adds depth and experience to the Knicks alongside his collegiate teammates including Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo.
The Knicks are shaping up to have a versatile lineup this season, aiming to compete effectively against teams like the Celtics. However, challenges remain in facing formidable centers like Porzingis, Embiid, and Lopez.
Securing Bridges on a reasonable extension would be a significant win for the Knicks, helping them navigate potential challenges while building for the future.
