Veteran NBA power forward/center Taj Gibson is getting ready to play his 16th season in the league with his eighth team.
According to Gibson’s agent Mark Bartelstein speaking to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the 6-foot-9 player is set to sign a one-year, $3.3 million contract with the Charlotte Hornets, meeting the league’s minimum salary terms for players with over ten years of experience.
Drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 2009, Gibson quickly made a name for himself as a strong defensive player, receiving All-Rookie honors in his first season.
Throughout his time with the Bulls under various coaches, Gibson was primarily known for his defensive skills and energy off the bench. His most successful years were with the Bulls, where the team reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 2011 and had multiple 50-win seasons.
Despite his contributions, the Bulls traded Gibson in a controversial deal to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2017. Since then, he has played for several teams including the Timberwolves, Knicks, Wizards, and Pistons.
With limited playing time in recent years, Gibson now brings veteran leadership to a young Hornets team. While he may not be a regular starter, his influence and experience are highly valued in the league.
