The NBA season has just kicked off, but the Golden State Warriors have already made a splash, achieving a unique feat in their first two games. Starting the season with two impressive victories, they’ve made history by winning both games by a whopping margin of at least 35 points.
This offseason brought significant changes for the Warriors, notably the departure of All-Star guard Klay Thompson. However, the organization focused on building more depth around its stars, Steph Curry and Draymond Green, in hopes of enhancing their performance.
So far, it’s been a strong showing, with the Warriors claiming wins over the Portland Trail Blazers and the Utah Jazz. While these teams may not rank among the league’s best, the important thing for the Warriors is to rack up those wins as they aim for a postseason return after last year’s absence.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr shared his thoughts on the team’s early success and expressed a bit of surprise at their performance. “We couldn’t have imagined this,” Kerr commented. “Winning two road games the way we did—with solid defense, high energy, and great teamwork—was a joy to watch.”
A key addition this season was guard Buddy Hield, who has seamlessly integrated into the Warriors’ lineup. Hield is making an impact, averaging 24.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game while shooting an impressive 75% from three-point range.
Though it’s unlikely he’ll maintain those stats throughout the season, it’s evident that Hield has filled a crucial role in the absence of Thompson. Teaming up with Curry, this duo is making the Warriors a formidable shooting threat once again.
The loss of Thompson—who helped secure four championship titles for the Warriors—was a tough blow, but after some negotiations fell through, he decided to move on. Now, with new components in place, Golden State is looking ready to reclaim its status as one of the premier teams in the Western Conference.
While it’s still early in the season, the Warriors could be one of the surprise teams to watch in 2023!
