An upsetting incident in Los Angeles has sparked a homicide investigation after the discovery of a deceased 1-day-old baby.
The investigation unfolded when a young woman in her early 20s, showing signs of recent childbirth or a miscarriage, sought medical help for severe bleeding at a hospital in Woodland Hills around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, as per the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
Concern arose when hospital staff noticed the absence of a baby and alerted the LAPD. Officers rushed to the woman’s home in Woodland Hills, where they discovered the lifeless body of a newborn girl, believed to be just a day old, among boxes and a trash can outside the residence. Tragically, the infant was pronounced dead at the scene.
Reports from local media suggest that sources involved in the case indicated the baby was not carried to full term. The woman underwent extensive questioning by authorities but was not arrested. Her attorney confirmed her full cooperation with investigators. Due to the ongoing nature of the inquiry, further specifics could not be disclosed at this time.
Second Tragic Infant Case Within 3 Months
Woodland Hills, known for its affluent demographics with over 90% of residents in ‘white-collar’ professions, has a median household income exceeding $100,000 for those aged 25-64.
This recent incident is not the first involving infant fatalities in the area. In April, an 8-month-old baby girl was discovered deceased on the 405 Freeway, with her 9-year-old sister present and sustaining moderate injuries.
Authorities later linked the two children to a 34-year-old woman who perished in a car crash. Subsequently, the body of a 29-year-old man was found at a Woodland Hills apartment complex, identified as the girls’ father.
The police stated that a violent altercation ensued between the couple, resulting in the woman fatally stabbing the man with a knife found at the scene. The woman is also suspected of ejecting the children from the car before colliding with a tree. Fortunately, the older girl survived and received medical care.
Neighbors, alarmed by noises from the altercation and blood near the door the following morning, alerted the police to the scene.
