AMBER Alert

An Amber Alert is a crucial national system designed to inform the public about missing children under 18. These alerts are disseminated through various channels, including radio, TV, road signs, and mobile devices.

Last year, the Amber Alert system helped locate 1,200 children and directly rescued 180. For an alert to be issued, the criteria include confirming an abduction, assessing serious risk to the child, and providing detailed information about the child, suspect, or vehicle.

Typically, fewer than 200 Amber Alerts are issued annually. This system operates across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Indian territories, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children also utilizes posters and social media to spread Amber Alerts to a wider audience.
