Boeing scored a significant victory at the Farnborough Airshow in London by securing an order for 20 777X aircraft from Qatar Airways.
This latest deal boosts the airline’s total commitment to Boeing’s innovative twin-aisle plane, which includes both passenger and freighter versions, to 94. Overall, Boeing has garnered 96 firm orders and 22 optional purchases during the event.
Qatar Airways stated its confidence in Boeing’s ability to deliver the aircraft by early 2026, even though the new model is not yet certified.
“Looking ahead, we are committed to providing our passengers with industry-leading products and services,” remarked Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Qatar Airways Group CEO, emphasizing the airline’s focus on top-notch customer satisfaction and hospitality.
The deal, valued at nearly $4 billion, was previously listed by Boeing as an order from an undisclosed customer.
Elsewhere at the show, Boeing also secured an order for 20 737 MAX 8 narrowbody planes from Macquarie AirFinance, adding to its already strong backlog.
Despite not displaying any test aircraft at the event, Boeing was at the forefront of dealmaking. The company previously inked deals with Korean Air Lines and Japan Air for multiple jets.
While Boeing led in number of deals after the second day, Airbus made significant gains with 69 deals of its own, including agreements with Vietjet, Virgin Atlantic, and Japan Airlines for various aircraft models.
The ongoing Farnborough Airshow has historically been a key platform for major aircraft manufacturers like Boeing and Airbus to announce substantial orders, though this year has seen some challenges amid airline frustrations over aircraft shortages and delays from the industry giants.
