A petition by Faithful America is gaining traction as it calls for Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito to resign due to recent controversies.
Faithful America, a group of Christians supporting social justice and opposing “Christian nationalism,” has gathered over 12,000 signatures demanding Alito’s resignation. The petition cites Alito’s remarks in a leaked recording about the need for the U.S. to return to “godliness” and his display of controversial flags outside his homes.
Alito was reported to have flown an upside-down American flag linked to the “Stop the Steal” movement, and a “Christian nationalist” flag outside his home in New Jersey. In a recording, he endorsed the idea of “winning” to bridge ideological divides and bring back “godliness” to the country.
The petition argues that Alito’s statements align with a Christian-nationalist agenda and violate the separation of church and state. Calls for his resignation intensified after he refused to recuse himself from cases involving former President Trump, despite mounting criticism.
While justices serve lifetime appointments, the growing pressure on Alito raises questions about judicial impartiality and the role of personal beliefs on the bench.
