Courtney Clenney, a former model known for her presence on OnlyFans and Instagram, is set to appear in court next week regarding her arrest from 2022, where she was charged with fatally stabbing her boyfriend in their opulent Florida condo.
A court hearing for her murder trial is slated for 9:30 a.m. on August 13 at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building in Miami. These report hearings typically provide updates on the case status from both the prosecution and the defense, and a trial or plea date may also be established at this time.
Background on Courtney Clenney
Clenney, who gained fame online as Courtney Tailor, called 911 on April 3, 2022, claiming her boyfriend, Christian “Toby” Obumsel, a 27-year-old cryptocurrency investor, had been stabbed during a domestic dispute. Body camera footage from responding officers showed Clenney at the scene, bloodied and distraught.
During her police interrogation, Clenney admitted to the stabbing but contended she acted in self-defense, asserting that Obumsel had physically assaulted her first, prompting her to grab a knife and throw it at him from approximately 10 feet away.
However, the medical examiner determined that Obumsel died from a stab wound that punctured an artery in his chest, contradicting Clenney’s account, as such an injury could not have resulted from the reported distance. Clenney was arrested on August 9, 2022, while in Hawaii, where she was dealing with recovery for substance abuse and PTSD, as reported by the Miami Herald.
While her defense lawyer has maintained that Clenney was acting in self-defense, Obumsel’s family has alleged that Clenney has benefited from biased treatment due to her race. The arrest warrant outlined a pattern of violence in Clenney and Obumsel’s two-year relationship, marked by incidents of weapon use and physical altercations.
On surveillance footage released after Obumsel’s death, a violent confrontation between the couple was caught in an elevator just weeks before the stabbing. Additionally, prior incidents of domestic conflict were noted, including Clenney’s arrest for domestic battery in July 2021.
Clenney’s attorney criticized the arrest warrant, claiming it contains misleading information and lamenting attempts by the state attorney’s office to sway public opinion with potentially unrelated evidence from the elevator footage. He alleged that Obumsel had previously manipulated and abused Clenney behind closed doors, highlighting witness accounts that revealed abusive behavior during their troubled relationship.
