On Friday, divers recovered the last missing body from the wreck of a sunken superyacht off the coast of Sicily, as reported by the Associated Press. The Italian coast guard confirmed that this marks the sixth body found from the Bayesian, which tragically sank on Monday.
The recovered body is believed to belong to 18-year-old Hannah Lynch, daughter of U.K. tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch. Mike’s body was located on Thursday, while his wife, Angela Bacares, was one of the 15 survivors rescued by the coast guard shortly after the yacht capsized during an unexpected tornado. Out of 22 passengers on board, seven have been confirmed dead.
Other identified victims include Jonathan and Judith Bloomer, as well as lawyers Christopher and Neda Morvillo, whose remains were found on Thursday. The first body recovered was that of the yacht’s chef, Recaldo Thomas, found just hours after the vessel sank.
Hannah’s school, Latymer Upper School, expressed their shock in a statement to The London Evening Standard, saying, “We are all incredibly shocked by the news that Hannah and her father are among those missing in this tragic incident.”
After being hit by a tornado, the Bayesian, valued at approximately $18 million, settled at a depth of 164 feet, complicating recovery efforts for divers. Access to below-deck cabins was hindered by debris displaced during the storm.
An Italian coast guard spokesperson mentioned that discussions about raising the sunken yacht will occur in the future but are “not on the agenda” at this time, as reported by the BBC.
Meanwhile, several of the surviving passengers remain hospitalized in Sicily, including a 1-year-old child who was taken to a children’s facility in Palermo.
