Doug Emhoff, the Second Gentleman of the United States, garnered “wife guy” recognition on social media after delivering an emotional tribute to Vice President Kamala Harris during the Democratic National Convention’s second night.
Sharing anecdotes about his blended family and their love story, Emhoff became an icon of supportiveness on platforms like X (formerly Twitter). Users praised his public display of affection and admiration for his wife.
One user, Joshua Rush, remarked, “We aren’t talking enough about how significant it is that Doug Emhoff is a ‘wife guy’ on such a major stage!”
He added, “Every day, young men face radicalization through misogyny, and here’s Doug, boldly loving and uplifting his wife.”
Rush’s post was part of a viral trend celebrating Emhoff, earning 127,600 views and over 8,000 likes. Another user, Ashley Reese, added, “Doug Emhoff is securing the wife guy vote at the DNC,” which also gained traction, amassing 10,000 views.
Journalist Danielle Campoamor dubbed the DNC’s second night “Wife Guy night” and previously labeled Emhoff the “ultimate golden retriever husband.” He initially won the “wife guy” title in 2020 after self-identifying as one in a post responding to Andrew Yang.
Emhoff has consistently supported Harris throughout her political journey. In his speech, he highlighted her accomplishments as Vice President and the positive impact she had on their family. Showing pride, Emhoff joked about how his mother believes Harris is lucky to have married him.
He recounted his nerve-wracking voicemail before their first blind date in 2013, where he quickly fell for her and appreciated her tenacity. Describing her as a “joyful warrior,” he noted her passion for justice and resilience against adversity.
With Harris as his wife and stepmother to his children, Cole and Ella, who affectionately call her “Momala,” Emhoff declared, “In this election, America must decide who to trust for its future. I trusted Kamala with ours—and it was the best decision I ever made.”
