United Airlines is expanding its network with exciting new routes to destinations like Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; Nuuk, Greenland; Palermo, Italy; Bilbao, Spain; and Dakar, Senegal, among others. Travelers can access these locales from United’s hubs in Newark/New York and Washington, D.C./Dulles.
This summer 2025, United will operate over 760 weekly flights across the Atlantic—more than any other U.S. airline—making it the leading choice for trans-Atlantic travel. The increase in flights will enhance service to popular European spots like Spain, Italy, France, Greece, and Croatia.
According to Patrick Quayle, United’s Senior VP of Global Network Planning and Alliances, “No other airline gives customers nonstop access to as many unique international destinations and experiences from the U.S. as United.”
New Routes to Europe and Africa
Pideas like Palermo and Bilbao are key highlights of United’s European expansion. Starting May 2025, seasonal flights will connect travelers to Palermo, Sicily’s historical capital known for its stunning landmarks and sun-kissed shores. This addition bolsters United’s presence in Italy, where it already serves major cities like Venice, Milan, and Rome.
Meanwhile, Bilbao, a cultural gem in Northern Spain famous for the Guggenheim Museum, will see flights from Newark beginning May 31, 2025, making United the only U.S. airline offering nonstop routes to this vibrant city.
In Africa, travelers can look forward to a year-round flight to Dakar, Senegal, from May 23, 2025. As a prime destination known for its beautiful beaches and rich cultural history, this route complements United’s existing flights to African cities like Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Lagos.
Unique Destinations in Greenland and Mongolia
Travelers will also be excited about new flights to Nuuk, Greenland, and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia’s capital, both destinations currently lacking service from any other U.S. airline. Beginning June 2025, United will offer twice-weekly flights from Newark to Nuuk, providing Americans a direct link to the capital while opening the door to Arctic explorations and wildlife encounters.
Furthermore, in May 2025, United will connect Tokyo-Narita with Ulaanbaatar, allowing passengers to explore Mongolia’s breathtaking scenery and expanding tourism opportunities.
Expanded Service to Portugal
United is also adding two new Portuguese destinations: Faro and Madeira Island. Starting May 2025, Faro will see four weekly flights from Newark, serving as the gateway to the Algarve’s stunning coastline and resorts. Additionally, seasonal flights to Madeira Island will launch in June, further enhancing United’s offering in Portugal.
This latest expansion reinforces United’s status as the U.S. airline with the most international destinations, providing travelers with an array of unique options for their next adventure.
