Newsflash: Newly Weds Foods and Kerry, Inc. notified the FDA about possible salmonella contamination in some seasoning products, prompting the FDA to unleash a major recall!
Newly Weds Foods from Chicago sparked the recall on May 2 after suspecting 468 cases of its 5 lb Steak and Burger Seasoning might be tainted. This batch was peddled in Florida, Illinois, and Texas.
Kerry, Inc., based in Wisconsin, joined the recall on May 3, disclosing that several of its seasoning products may also harbor salmonella, including their Cheddar & Sour Cream and Sun Nat HV Cheddar #3 seasonings. These products were distributed in various states and even in Canada.
If you suspect you have these products at home, watch out for Newly Weds Foods’ lot number MS330883. Kerry, Inc.’s Cheddar & Sour Cream Seasoning is linked to lot numbers 8092105, 8127605, and 8091886, while their Sun Nat HV Seasoning is tied to lot numbers like 7913195 and more.
The FDA declared this recall a Class I type, meaning there’s a high chance of severe health consequences or even death from using the tainted product. In comparison, Class II or III recalls are less severe.
Salmonella bacteria, typically found in animal and human intestines, can sneak into food through animal waste, particularly during meat processing. Eggs, unpasteurized milk, and poultry can also carry the bacteria.
Salmonella triggers gastrointestinal illness with symptoms like diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever. Severe cases may include aches, headaches, and even blood in stools. The CDC suggests about 450 Americans pass away annually from acute salmonellosis.
If you experience any of these symptoms after consuming potentially contaminated food, reach out to your doctor pronto.
