FDA Issues Fudge Recall Update: Mold Risk Raises Concerns

Authentik Fudge, also known as Montreal Fudge, has issued a voluntary recall for its Chocolate Fudge with Nuts due to possible mold contamination.

On August 14, the FDA announced the recall, highlighting that it falls under Class II risk. This classification indicates that while exposure to the product could lead to temporary health issues, the likelihood of serious health consequences is minimal.

In contrast, Class III reflects a lower risk, suggesting that using the product is unlikely to cause health problems, while Class I indicates a higher risk of serious health effects or even death.

The affected fudge was distributed around June 19 and 20, making its way to TJ Maxx and Marshalls stores across several states including Arizona, California, and Texas, among others.

Customers should be on the lookout for 5.6 Oz boxes marked with specific lot numbers and expiration dates: lot 0241500805 (2025/MR/01) and lot 0241690105 and 0241690205 (both 2025/MR/17).

The recall was prompted by a consumer report of mold found in purchased fudge, leading the company to inspect their unsold stock and discover more signs of mold.

The USDA has cautioned that while some molds are harmless, others can trigger allergies or respiratory issues and may produce dangerous toxins under certain conditions.

If you’ve purchased any of the affected products, it’s recommended that you dispose of them or return them for a full refund, as advised by the FDA.
