# FDA Recalls Arepas Due to Undeclared Dairy
Villa Nueva Interservices LLC in Lake Worth, Florida, is recalling Arepas LA Mejor bags due to undisclosed dairy ingredients. The faulty 25-ounce bags were sold in South Florida supermarkets.
Consumers should check for a specific batch number on the package. The most easily identified signs of the recalled product are the prominently displayed “Arepas LA Mejor” label and the UPC Code 8-37654-78238.
If you have a milk allergy, consuming this product could lead to severe, life-threatening reactions. So far, no illnesses or injuries have been reported.
It’s crucial to differentiate between milk intolerance and milk allergy. A milk allergy involves the immune system overreacting to a particular food protein, potentially resulting in a life-threatening response. Conversely, milk intolerance, like lactose intolerance, occurs when the body lacks the digestive enzyme to break down milk components.
Symptoms of a cow’s milk allergy can include hives, dermatitis, facial swelling, wheezing, coughing, vomiting, and diarrhea. If you’re sensitive to dairy, it’s best to avoid this product. Dispose of the recalled items or return them to the store for a refund.
For questions or concerns, contact the FDA at 561-480-0132, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm EST. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience allergy symptoms.
