Recovering from shark attacks in Florida‘s Walton County has been a tough journey for victims, leading to serious injuries and amputations.
In separate incidents on Friday, two teenage girls and a 45-year-old woman were attacked within hours of each other. Luckily, all three victims are on the path to recovery.
Ann Blair Gribbin, mother of 15-year-old Lulu Gribbin, shared an update on her daughter’s condition.
According to Gribbin, Lulu lost her left hand and had her leg amputated halfway after the shark attack. She said, “She had also lost 2/3 of her body’s blood.” But the important thing is she survived.
Gribbin mentioned that after Lulu was taken off the ventilator, her first words were, “I’ve made it.” A powerful moment in her recovery journey.
Lulu shared her experience of being attacked while looking for sand dollars with friends in the water. Luckily, strangers came to their rescue when the shark struck.
Describing the heroic actions of the people who assisted in saving Lulu’s life, Gribbin emphasized the critical role they played in applying tourniquets to her wounds.
Although multiple surgeries lie ahead, Gribbin highlighted Lulu’s strength and courage, which will help her navigate the challenging road ahead.
Reflecting on the unusual nature of the back-to-back attacks, authorities are working to understand the rare occurrence and identify the shark responsible.
The beaches, which were briefly closed post-attacks, have since reopened with updated warning signs to alert beachgoers of the potential risks.
